Sustainable Agriculture And Food Security

Agriculture is a broad sector that creates room for everyone irrespective of your area of pursuit. Agriculture being the science of cultivating crops,rearing of livestock for man's use and industrial purposes plays an important role in the quest to curb food insecurity which has in turn brought about other divisions into play like the sustainable agriculture and food security which focuses on the availability of food for the now and the future as well as bringing about good health globally. Sustainable agriculture seeks to meet the needs of the populace without compromising the needs of the future generation. A household is considered food secure when it does not live in hunger or fear.
          Food insecurity is a major  challenge faced in Nigeria due to the neglect and lack of investment in subsistence agriculture. According to the Global Food Security Index in 2019, Nigeria is ranked 96th out of the 113 countries surveyed which is an irony, considering the fact that Nigeria is a naturally endowed country, blessed with lands, vegetations, minerals etc, and of course  can still be food secure if the following measures can be taken into consideration;

* Adequate allocation of budget; to aid continuous crop production, awareness to the rural farmers,educating them on the right farming practices and approaches.

* Availability/Access to basic farm inputs to bring about effective cultivation of lands and production of food.

* Access to good roads to aid effective movement of goods and services.

*Rural development; of which have been neglected over time causing various kinds of illness, deaths, hunger, farm land crises.
